NEW DELHI: The BJP will have a new leader by the end of the year, with the long process of internal party elections beginning soon after the end of state executive meetings, followed by recruitment, executive meetings and a national executive meeting.
The party’s secretary-general said: DH The process is expected to be completed by November, the leader said. “The new president will be sworn in by December. Following that, we will hold an expanded national executive committee meeting similar to the national council held in Delhi in January this year,” he said.
Senior party sources said the process of internal polls in the party would begin in August after the budget debate is over.
Another BJP leader said the process would begin as soon as the state executive meetings are over. A state executive meeting is currently underway in Uttar Pradesh. Similar meetings were held in Goa and Rajasthan last week. Party chief JP Nadda participated in the Uttar Pradesh executive meeting over the weekend.
The party plans to launch a membership drive soon. DH The membership drive will last for over a month and is expected to end by the end of October. “The party’s state chapters will start the drive first and once the membership drive is over, we will verify all the members. This is expected to end by the end of October,” the party official said.
After the party’s last membership drive in 2018, the BJP announced that its membership had reached 180 million. “Party members have to renew their membership once in 10 years. Hence, existing members will also have to fill up membership forms,” the party leader added. These forms can be submitted both online and offline.
After the membership drive, elections for Mandal Presidents will be held, followed by the election of District Presidents. This will be followed by elections for State Council and State President. These internal polls will be held in November.
After the vote, a National Caucus meeting will be held, followed by a National Executive meeting, which will elect the president, according to sources. At least 50 percent of the states’ legislators must first be elected before elections can take place.
Following the BJP’s victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the RSS may have a greater say in the electoral process, with sources within the RSS suggesting it would give preference to Dalit, OBC or female candidates.
