In a first-time election, AAP and the Indian National Congress have joined forces to take on the ruling BJP, but exit polls suggest that the saffron party is set to win again in the Delhi Lok Sabha elections. Exit polls predict a repeat of the 2019 scenario, with the BJP expected to secure around 50-56 per cent vote share.

The main campaign focuses of each party: While Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest and subsequent interim bail became a focal point of the AAP’s election campaign, the BJP continued to press charges of corruption within Kejriwal’s government and highlighted the central government’s role in Delhi’s development. The Indian National Congress, on the other hand, focused on linking its national “Nyay Assurance” to local issues, leveraging its common voter base with its ally the AAP.

Delhi Lok Sabha Election Results Live Updates: Despite AAP-Congress ‘broom-in-hand’ camaraderie, exit polls predict a landslide victory for BJP in Delhi Lok Sabha elections | Follow this space for latest updates on Lok Sabha election results

How has AAP’s election campaign changed since Kejriwal’s arrest?

With slogans evolving from “Jawab votes in jail” to “Taanashahi money”, AAP’s Lok Sabha campaign moved from protest to passionate struggle during the 51 days of Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest and interim bail. Kejriwal emerged as the central theme of the campaign, with AAP seeking votes in his name and countering “Modi’s guarantee” with Kejriwal’s own 10-point guarantee, injecting new energy into the party and boosting the morale of Delhi’s Congress candidates. read more

Has the issue of air pollution in Delhi featured in any political party’s manifesto?

Surprisingly, this key issue is conspicuously absent from the AAP, BJP and BJP-Bharatiya Janata Party’s Lok Sabha campaign agenda. Though both the BJP and BJP-Bharatiya Janata Party manifestos briefly mention air pollution through a reference to the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), the emphasis is on renewable energy initiatives such as clean cooking fuels, electric buses and the promotion of biofuels. The issue was also absent from Arvind Kejriwal’s “10 Guarantees”. read more

Four out of seven seats in the Indian Lok Sabha are held by the Indian Union and the BJP

In an election in which the Ahmed Ahmed Party (AAP) and the Indian National Congress Party have formed a united front against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), four of Delhi’s seven Lok Sabha seats have emerged as a concern for the parties. Sources from the three parties said the margin of victory in all constituencies is expected to narrow compared to the 2019 elections, with seats like Chandni Chowk, Northeast Delhi, West Delhi and South Delhi likely to be won by a narrow margin based on vote share. read more

BJP campaigns in the national capital

In Delhi, the BJP has focused on countering the AAP rather than the Congress, seeing Kejriwal’s party as a stronger opponent. The party has consistently focused on corruption allegations within the Kejriwal government, highlighting the role of the BJP-led central government in Delhi’s development, and underscoring the strong and stable leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After the Swati Maliwal scandal, the BJP incorporated the issue into its election campaign, particularly targeting the JJ (Jhuggi Jhopri) areas and slum areas in the city. These areas have traditionally leaned towards the AAP due to their flagship subsidy schemes for electricity, water and free bus service. read more
