KARACHI: Asad Zaman, Taimoor Ansari, Hassan Usmani, Ruhab Faisal, Muzammil Bhand, Nabeel Qayum and Ansarullah progressed into the Under-18 quarter-finals of the first Sohail University National Tennis Championship here at the DA Creek Club on Monday.

Meanwhile, in the men’s last-16 fixtures, Ahtesham Humiyoon — who recently won the men’s and U-18 title last week — maintained his brilliant form as he edged past Jabir Ali 8-6 while Raahim Veqar trounced M. Zakir 8-0.

Ismail Aftab and Saqib Zia also advanced following convincing wins over Talha Ali and Laraib Shamsi, respectively.

Boys Under-18: Asad Zaman bt Zayd Ali 6-2, 6-0; Taimoor Ansari bt Faiz Ilyas 6-0, 2-0 rtd; Hassan Usmani bt Mohammad Yahya 6-2, 6-2; Ruhab Faisal bt Samir Kabeer 6-1, 6-1; Muzammil Bhand bt Aisam Malik 6-1, 6-2; Ansarullah bt Inam Qadir 4-6, 6-3, 6-3

Boys Under-14: Ansarullah bt Arman Ali 4-0, 0-4, 4-2; M. Ali bt Zayd Zaman 5-3, 4-2; Ibrahim Gill bt Syed Zohran Sohail 4-0, 5-3; Zohaib Amjad bt Aidh Imran 4-0, 4-1

Boys Under 12: Mohammad Muaz bt Mohammad Arbi 4-0, 4-0; Umer Zaman bt Qazi Ahyan 5-3, 4-1; Ibrahim Gill bt Zaydan Rizwan 4-0, 4-0; Majid Bachani bt Rahim Faisal 4-0, 4-0; Rashid Bachani bt Naayel Sohaib 5-3, 4-0; Mohammad Ali bt Abdullah Ali 4-0, 4-1; Mohammad Ayan bt Ashtar Alam Khan 4-2, 4-0.

Women’s (first-round): Sakina Pir bt Ayesha Yousuf 8-2; Thahreem Yousuf bt 8-4.

Girls Under-12 (first-round): Shanaya Sheikh bt Zainab Afnan 5-4, 4-2, 4-0.
