A Brazilian paragliding tourist has died in a crash in northern Pakistan, an official told AFP on Friday, the fourth foreign adventurer to be killed in the region since last month.

55 years old…

A Brazilian paragliding tourist has died in a crash in northern Pakistan, an official told AFP on Friday, the fourth foreign adventurer to be killed in the region since last month.

Home to towering mountains including K2, the world’s second highest mountain, Northern Pakistan attracts tourists from all over the world with its breathtaking scenery.

Chadad Raineli Rodrigo, 55, was part of a team of seven people trekking to K2 base camp, but he was the only one who opted to paraglide.

“He started paragliding when his parachute burst and he crashed,” local police spokesman Mohammed Nazir told AFP by telephone from the scene of the accident in Sigal.

The team included two people from France, two from the United States, one each from Bulgaria and Switzerland.

Nazir said the man’s body had been recovered and would be returned to Brazil after consultation with his family.

Three Japanese climbers were also killed in two separate accidents at the start of this summer’s climbing season.

Pakistan is stepping up tourism promotion in the region in an effort to boost the local economy.
