A Swiss-based operating systems provider has unveiled technology that allows drones to evade jamming and other electronic warfare countermeasures.

Auterion has introduced Skynode S, a revolutionary new drone technology for military use, to better support democracies seeking to defend themselves against danger.

Auterion says the Skynode S is capable of fully autonomous flight, capable of reaching and destroying ground targets with great precision.

All-in-one computer and flight controller

The company says Skynode S is an all-in-one computer and flight controller that offers the first low-cost, NDAA-compliant technology to be integrated into a wide range of commercial and military vehicles.

The system, proven in combat missions in Ukraine, provides Kiev’s military with advanced computer vision to counter and avoid GPS and radio frequency targeting losses in electronic warfare.

First to offer swarm control, fully autonomous flight and immunity to interference

The company claims the drone is the first with swarm control, fully autonomous flight and immunity to jamming, enabling unprecedented precision and increasing success rates from 20% to more than 90%.

“Our technology is transforming the battlefield and helping democracies defend themselves,” said Lorenz Meyer, Auterion’s founder and CEO.

“We are proud to contribute to Ukraine’s efforts with smarter, more accurate and cost-effective technology that will enable Ukraine to use drones on an increasingly large scale to defeat aggressors.”

Skynode S could help the US overtake Chinese competitors

Auterion’s software, which costs about the same as a smartphone, is said to democratize high-tech combat drones, allowing U.S. manufacturers and suppliers to outperform Chinese competitors, the company says.

Moreover, it comes equipped with a targeting app that is compatible with regular computers, making it a game-changer for both the defense and commercial sectors.

Developed in collaboration with government and industry partners in the U.S., EU and Ukraine, Skynode S has undergone hundreds of test flights and frontline service with Auterion’s Ukrainian customers.

Skynode S enables drones to navigate long distances with precision

Skynode S will enable private operators to deploy small, low-cost drones in restricted airspace or indoors, for example, and integrate any kind of camera, radio and on-board app into the platform.

This will enable the deployment of unmanned systems running AI and computer vision applications at volumes that will have strategic levels of impact.

The software enables drones to navigate accurately over long distances, even when GPS is degraded, jammed, or otherwise unavailable.

The same circuit boards that run the target-tracking algorithms can also be linked to jamming-resistant GPS antennas, electromagnetic sensors that triangulate the drone’s position from radio beacons, and computer vision algorithms that match the terrain beneath the drone against high-resolution satellite maps, according to Breaking Defense.
