A new TikTok trend is making waves: brides-to-be make drastic changes to their look after saying “yes.”
Here’s how it works:
Brides get their hair done for their wedding, get married, and have a hairstylist cut a significant amount of their hair before the reception.

She had six inches of her hair cut off on her wedding day, thanks to her aunt and friend, who is a hairstylist.

“My favorite part of our wedding was the daytime makeup. I think the entire process only took about 20 minutes,” Elkins told Fox News Digital in an email.

Elkins said she had always decided to cut her hair on her wedding day to symbolize the start of a new chapter in her life, adding that she got the idea after seeing another bride getting her hair cut online.

Elkins said after getting her hair cut, she gave her husband an impromptu “second look” to show him her new dress and new hairstyle.

“I was even more excited to make my grand entrance at the reception looking like a new bride. I received lots of comments from guests saying how much they enjoyed the change,” she added.
Elkins said she doesn’t regret the haircut, calling it a nice change of pace for her big day.

Olivia Lopez, a 27-year-old obstetrics nurse from Edmond, Oklahoma, also had her hair cut on her wedding day.
“The haircut was scheduled to take 45 minutes but only took 30,” Lopez told Fox News Digital in an email.

Lopez said she and her husband dined alone in the space where hairstylists were finishing up their wedding-day haircuts while guests were being served dinner.
“I don’t regret my decision at all! It was a lot of fun and since then my husband has always said he loves my short hair,” she wrote in an email.
Lopez encourages brides to take advantage of the time they have to plan their haircut for their wedding day.

Jennifer Barefield, 30, who works in the insurance industry and is originally from southeast Texas, was married in November 2023 in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

She told Fox News Digital that she had been thinking about cutting her hair for months, but finally decided to do it while getting changed for her wedding reception.
“My hairstylist was also a friend of mine, so every 30 minutes starting at 8 a.m. she would ask me, ‘Are you getting your hair cut?'” Barefield said.

She added: “Needless to say, Paige DeSorbo has been my inspiration and five espresso martinis my motivation since the beginning.”
Barefield said her husband was so surprised to see her in her second wedding dress that he didn’t even notice her new hairstyle.

“He was totally shocked because I was only 18 inches. [of] I got more hair about 20 minutes ago,” she said.

“I did everything I could to speed up my hair growth for the wedding,” Barefield said.
“As soon as the ceremony was over, I wanted and needed a haircut!” she said in an email to Fox News Digital.
When asked if she would recommend this haircut trend to other brides, Barefield replied, “Hair will grow back, so have fun with it!”
