The Great Britain women’s team lost 3-1 on Thursday, giving the U.S. its only win of the pro league season.
Captain Holly Pern-Webb said the match was her team’s “worst performance” to date.
GB took the lead in the first quarter when Katie Robertson deflected a powerful shot from Lily Owsley.
But they couldn’t capitalize on their early advantage, and the U.S. tied the game just before halftime when Megan Barzounis tucked in Sophia Gladier’s flicked pass to the center.
The U.S. finally took the lead in the final quarter, when Ashley Sessa touched down a cross from Meredith Shoulder.
Sholder scored the winner just four minutes later, smashing a shot past Amy Tennant near the post.
“This is definitely our worst performance and we’re disappointed about that,” Pern Webb told TNT Sports, “but we’ve definitely been in darker situations in the Pro League so far.”
“Luckily there are still a few more games to come and it’s not the Olympics. The good thing about it is it’s a learning opportunity. If you don’t learn something from it, it’s a waste of time.”
After 16 games, the USA finish last in the professional league with 14 losses and one draw, while Great Britain still has eight games remaining.
The Great Britain men’s team will take on Ireland on Thursday at 20:00 BST.
