James was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the draft on Thursday and will be on the court next season alongside his father, LeBron James.
If they take the court together, it will be the first time that father and son play on the same team at the same time.
The first round of the NBA Draft, held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Wednesday night, ended without Bronny James being selected. The Lakers selected him with the 55th pick on Thursday.
Bronny James’ limited basketball career includes one season at the University of Southern California, where he recorded 4.8 points per game in 25 games, primarily coming off the bench.
James’ brief college career was delayed when he collapsed after going into cardiac arrest during a practice at the University of Southern California on July 24. His family said he was diagnosed with a treatable congenital heart condition and is eligible to play again.

But a heart attack set James back and kept him from playing until USC’s ninth game of the season.
LeBron James has until Saturday to decide whether to stay with the Lakers, the team he has played for since 2018-19.
