After hosting eight matches of the ongoing T20 World Cup, the temporary but crucial venue, Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, located in Eisenhower Park on Long Island, New York, is set to be demolished on Friday, June 14. Built in just five months, the last match to be played at the stadium was Wednesday’s Group A match between India and co-hosts USA. A viral video showed bulldozers parked outside the stadium, ready to clear the temporary venue.
The stadium’s modular components will be dismantled and reused, but local cricket clubs and fans will continue to have access to the finest turf and infrastructure.
This will help boost the popularity of the sport in the region and provide a platform for local talent to flourish, but the Nassau County International Stadium will forever be remembered as the venue for the blockbuster match between India and Pakistan.
Suryakumar Yadav scored an unbeaten half-century and left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh took a career-best four-nine as India defeated the United States by seven wickets on Wednesday to reach the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup.
Chasing 111 to win the Group A match, India were reeling at 15-2 and 44-3 but Suryakumar (50) and Shivam Dube (31) put on an unbeaten stand of 67 for the fourth wicket to give Rohit Sharma’s side their third win from three matches with 10 balls to spare.
Despite the loss, the United States has four points and is in good position to advance to the Super Eight along with India, while Pakistan and Canada each have two points with one game in hand.
Both teams came into the match with four points from two wins, with the US having previously defeated Pakistan in a stunning Super Over victory.
India joins Australia and South Africa as the third team to have qualified for the next stage so far.
