Business Honors Program Graduates Class of 2024

Eleven members of the University of Scranton’s Class of 2024 have graduated from one of Scranton’s outstanding programs, the Frank P. Corcione Business Honors Program, in which students undertake four years of honors study in the areas of economics, entrepreneurship, operations management, accounting, finance, international business, marketing and management, as well as a series of self-improvement extracurricular activities in the areas of service and career building.

Below is a list of the 2024 Business Honors Program graduates, along with their majors, advisors, and research projects.

Madalyn R. BuhlerGraduated from Stony Point, New York Bestas a finance major. Buehler worked with his supervisor, Dr. Aram Balagözyan, associate professor of economics, on a dissertation titled, “An Analysis of the Impact of the 1996 Farm Bill on Commodity Prices and Obesity Rates in the United States.” Buehler was also a member of the College’s Robert L. McKage Business Leadership Honors Program.

Matthew J. DuffyGraduated from Plainview, New York BestDuffy enrolled at the university as a double major in business analytics and philosophy. Duffy worked on his thesis titled, “A Machine Learning Approach to MLB Attendance Metrics” with his advisor, Dr. David Mahalak (Engineering), a faculty specialist in the Operations and Analytics department. Duffy was also a member of the university’s special Jesuit Liberal Arts Honors Program.

Nina J. FiguetakisGraduated from Little Neck, New York BestFigetakis is an accounting major and wrote a dissertation titled, “An Examination of Student Perceptions of Work-Life Balance in CPA Firms” with accounting professor and supervisor Dr. Daniel Mahoney.

Todd F. MonahanMoosic, Graduated, BestMonahan, an associate professor in the School of Economics, Finance and International Business, worked with his supervisor, John Ruddy (DPS), on the dissertation, titled “A Six-Year Analysis of Technology Funding Before, During and After the Pandemic.”

Hannah G. PhelanYardley, Graduated, Bestin Operations Management. Phelan worked on his thesis entitled, “Exploring the Impact of COVID-19 on Supply Chain Disruptions and Analyzing Resilience Strategies,” with his supervisor, Dr. Ozgur Isil, an associate professor in the Operations and Analytics Department. Phelan was also a member of the University’s Robert L. McKage Business Leadership Honors Program.

Jeffrey S. PizzutoScranton, graduated, BestPizzuto is a business administration major and worked on his thesis titled, “The Pervasiveness of Data Collection in an Electronic World” with his supervisor, Dr. Ash Zareian, a faculty specialist in the School of Business, Marketing and Entrepreneurship.

Gabriele RichettiHolbrook, New York, graduate HonorsRichetti majored in accounting and co-authored a thesis titled “The Impact of Machine Learning on the Accounting Profession” with his supervisor, Richard O’Hara, who also specializes in accounting.

Matthew A. RodaNew Town, Graduation, Honorsmajoring in finance. Roda worked with her finance professor and supervisor, Dr. John Kalianiotis, on her thesis entitled, “Comparing Stocks in Different Markets.”

Madeline G. RonanGraduated from Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Bestas an accounting and finance double major. Ronan worked with his supervisor, John Ruddy DPS, associate professor in the Department of Economics, Finance and International Business, on his dissertation, titled, “An Empirical Analysis of U.S.-Based Entertainment Companies Before, During, and After the Pandemic.” Ronan was also a member of the College’s Robert L. McKage Business Leadership Honors Program.

John J. SheehanGraduated from Dumont, New Jersey; BestSheehan majored in accounting. He worked on his thesis titled, “Audit Committee Perspectives on ESG Reporting,” with his supervisor, Dr. Ashley Stampin, assistant professor of accounting. Sheehan was also a member of the Robert L. McQuage Business Leadership Honors Program at the university.

Kaylee E. TimmonsBergenfield, New Jersey, graduate HonorsTimmons, an accounting and philosophy double major, wrote his dissertation, “The Impact of Jesuit Business Education on Developing Ethical Business Professionals,” with Dr. Amanda Marcy, assistant professor of accounting and his supervisor. Timmons was also a member of the college’s Robert L. McQuage Business Leadership Honors Program and the Jesuit Special Liberal Arts Honors Program.

Students in the Business Honors Program presented their graduation projects to a panel of judges in early May. The Best Graduation Project award was presented to Buhler. Excellence Awards were presented to Phelan and Ronan.

Dr. Aram Balagyozyan, associate professor of economics, serves as director of the university’s Frank P. Corcione Business Honors Program.
