Caitlin Clark has taken the WNBA by storm, earning an All-Star selection in her rookie season.
Clark is one of 12 players selected for the 2024 All-Star Game, and she will not be the only rookie to compete in this year’s WNBA All-Star Game on July 20. Angel Reese is also on the roster, and the two will play on the same team in the game. Clark received the most votes from fans.
Despite her popularity, Clark is putting up All-Star worthy numbers, averaging 16.2 points (16th in the WNBA) and 6.9 assists (3rd) per game, both of which are tops among rookies. Reese is also putting up impressive numbers, averaging 13.3 points and leading the WNBA in rebounding with 11.4 rebounds per game. Clark was named WNBA Rookie of the Month for May, while Reese was named Rookie of the Month for June.
This year’s All-Star Game will not have the typical format of pitting the best WNBA players against each other. Instead, the U.S. women’s basketball team will face off against the remaining All-Stars in preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics. As such, All-Star selections such as A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart will lead the U.S. team in the All-Star Game in Phoenix.
The league determined its All-Star selections through votes from fans (50% of the vote), current WNBA players (25%) and national media (25%). The top spots were narrowed down and Clark, Aaliyah Boston, Diarika Hamby and Aleeq Ogunbowale, all of whom were not on the U.S. team in the top 10, were selected to the All-Star Game. To determine the rest of the WNBA team, the league collected the names of the 36 players with the next highest number of votes, with the remaining spots being voted on by the 12 WNBA coaches.
