Voter turnout in Pune Lok Sabha seats increased slightly from the last election, but continued changes in polling trends in six assembly seats in Lok Sabha constituencies left candidates in a state of tension. It continued.
The Pune Lok Sabha seat comprises six assembly segments – Vadgaoncheri, Shivajinagar, Kothrud, Parvati, Pune Cantonment and Kasbah Peth. Voting began at 7 a.m. and continued until 1 p.m., then slowed down for a while before picking up steam again. In the first two hours, the Bharatiya Janata Party-dominated assembly area of Kothrud had the highest turnout at 7.59 per cent while the Congress-dominated area of Pune Cantonment had the lowest turnout at 5.69 per cent. From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Kothrud continued his good turnout at 18.2 per cent, but the Kasbah Assembly segment polls, which gave victory to Dhangekar in the 2023 by-elections, gained momentum and by 1 p.m. He won 31.1 percent, beating Kosrud by 29.1 percent. .
Over the next two hours, from 1pm to 3pm, the overall turnout slowed, with another Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Ms Parvati polling at 38.1 per cent in the six assembly segments. This was followed by Kasbapés with 37.2%.
By 5pm, Kasbah Peth had outperformed all other rally segments with 51.07 percent turnout, followed by Kosrud with 48.91 percent. However, the overall turnout for the polls lagged behind in Vadgaoncheri, Shivajinagar and Pune Cantonment, which were expected to outperform Congress candidates.
In the last hour of voting, Kasba Peth remained the Congress segment with maximum voter turnout of 57.90 per cent, followed by Pune Cantonment with 50.52 per cent. Both are considered the seat of parliament. Significant rise was recorded in Shivajinagar and Vadgaoncheri at 49.72 per cent and 49.81 per cent respectively.
