The Celtics have a chance to become NBA champions on Friday thanks in large part to the metronomic consistency of their approach and execution. Much of the credit goes to head coach Joe Mazzulla, whose unwavering, and sometimes eyebrow-raising, commitment to a detail-oriented style that values process over results has helped transform Boston from a talented team that occasionally made blunders into one that has operated like a brutally efficient winning machine for most of the past eight months.
But as Mazzulla told reporters before Game 4, a fair bit of credit should also be given to the Celtics for having a chance to sweep the team.
“Dallas is a great opponent because they test your discipline every time they get the ball,” he said in his pre-game press conference, “and if you’re not where you should be or you don’t get the right angles, they take advantage of that.”
