Charlize Theron stepped out in a striking all-black outfit at the Critics Association’s LGBTQ Film and TV Festival in LA last night, joining the growing list of celebrities embracing the peekaboo bra layering trend.

The actress wore a long tailored black blazer with no undergarments except for a glimpse of her black lace bra. Her outfit also included a black leather mini skirt that was subtly visible underneath the hem of the blazer. Theron completed her sophisticated look with black leather heels with chunky ankle straps.
Theron’s outfit reflected a trend that’s become popular among celebrities on the red carpet as a sign of empowerment, often pairing peekaboo bras with menswear-inspired silhouettes. Gwen Stefani recently sported the look on the first day of CMA Fest, wearing a long-sleeved flannel shirt buttoned only at the top, revealing a black bra. Natalie Portman took a more feminine approach to the trend, sporting a black bra peeking out from under her dress during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in January.

Theron has also sported the style in the past. In May 2023, she wore a black mesh ensemble by Christian Dior to the premiere of the film “Fast X” in Rome. The plunging dress was paired with a bralette and shorts. The peekaboo bra trend, made popular by Madonna’s cone bra in the ’80s, made a comeback at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.

The Critics Association-sponsored event recognized outstanding contributions to LGBTQ+ film and television. Theron presented awards to drag queens Sasha Velour, Priyanka Choi, Jada Essence Hall and Latrice Royale (a former contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race) for their efforts to combat misinformation about drag queens through their national educational series “We’re Here.”
