Google will shut down chat and call history features on Google Business Profiles on July 31, 2024. Google will no longer allow new chats to be started after July 15, 2024, and will disable chat and call history features completely on July 31, 2024.

What Google said. Google sent different types of emails to businesses depending on whether they use the chat or call history features.

“We are pleased to announce that chat and call history features on Google Business Profiles will be shut down on July 31, 2024. We know this is difficult news. We are continuously improving our tools and sometimes have to make difficult decisions that may impact the businesses and partners we work with. It is important to us that Google remains a partner to help our customers manage their businesses, and we remain committed to this mission.”

Important dates. Here are some upcoming dates you should know about:

  • July 15, 2024: Searchers will no longer be able to start new chat conversations with your business from Google Maps or Google Search. However, searchers who are in existing chat conversations will be notified that chat is being phased out.
  • July 31, 2024: The chat feature on Google Business Profiles will be permanently shut down, meaning you will no longer be able to receive new chat messages, and your Google Business Profile’s call history will no longer be visible on your Google Business Profile.

Download history. You can download your chat and call history from your Google Business Profile and store it somewhere. At some point, Google will delete the history.

Email. Below is a screenshot of the email I received:

Why we care. If your business uses these features, be aware that they will soon no longer be available, and we recommend downloading your chat and call history before the deadline and archiving that data in your CRM software and database.
