CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Many legendary professional athletes grew up in Chesterfield County, including two-time Super Bowl-winning linebacker James Farrier and NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin, who won the Daytona 500 three times. Now, the county will be honoring talented athletes with the creation of the Chesterfield Sports Hall of Fame.
The county is accepting nominations for inaugural induction into the Chesterfield Sports Hall of Fame from Tuesday, May 14 through Monday, July 1. The hall of fame will honor not only athletes, but also coaches and others who have “contributed to Chesterfield’s rich athletic history and tradition.”
According to the county, candidates must have “a substantial connection to Chesterfield County, such as being educated or a long-term resident in the county, have existing service to the community, and have made a positive impact on Chesterfield’s sports culture.” Headshot and action shots of all candidates are also required.
The inductee banquet will be held at the Parkinson Arts Education Center in the Chester area, and the names of future inductees will be posted at the River City Sportsplex, 13030 Jenit Road in the Midlothian area.
