Chiefs unveil Super Bowl championship rings, team receives rings in private ceremony

The Super Bowl champions received their championship rings on Thursday night. During a private ceremony at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, the Chiefs each received a piece of jewelry commemorating their victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 55.

Kansas City won its second consecutive championship, 25-22 in overtime, on a 3-yard walk-off touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes to Mecole Hardman.

The ring ceremony came two weeks after the Chiefs visited the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl win and presented President Joe Biden with the team’s helmets and jerseys.

The championship rings, which were unveiled after the players and coaches received their jewelry, not only commemorate the Super Bowl 53 victory but also celebrate the franchise’s history.

Team owner Clark Hunt The ring design, unveiled during a red carpet celebration with media, included the team logo, four Lombardi Trophies representing the four championships the franchise has won, each player’s name and jersey number and the year the Chiefs won the Super Bowl.

Like last year’s ring, this piece includes a removable top that reveals a miniature football field, individual details about each player (such as how many Super Bowls they have won with their team), and a playbook diagram of Super Bowl-winning passes dubbed “Tom and Jerry.”

The inside of the ring features the scores of each playoff game Kansas City won en route to this championship, as well as the initials “NKH” in honor of Norma Hunt, mother of team owner Clark Hunt and widow of team founder Lamar Hunt, who passed away last year (Lamar Hunt’s initials are on the bottom outside of the ring).

A detailed diagram explaining each feature of the ring and what it symbolizes for the franchise can be found on the Chiefs’ official website.

While media was not allowed to attend the ring ceremony, the Chiefs held a red carpet celebration for reporters in front of Nelson Atkins. We waited in 95 degree heat. The stadium erupted in cheers as the players and coaches arrived.

The champions did not disappoint with their fashion choices as they arrived at the venue, with head coach Andy Reid setting the bar high with his red sneakers.

Reid isn’t the only one to incorporate the Chiefs’ primary color into his outfit: tight end Travis Kelce and Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, both sported red (or fuchsia) in their outfits, as did current Buffalo Bills receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Like last year, the Chiefs didn’t reveal their 2024 championship rings before Thursday’s ceremony, presumably to let the players see them first. Once the design was released, the team shared a wealth of very specific details about the championship rings with everyone.

Reid met with reporters after the team’s final minicamp practice and said it was good to celebrate one more time with the ring ceremony, but the players and coaching staff are already looking ahead to the 2024-25 season and a chance to win a third consecutive Super Bowl championship.

“It goes by so quickly. Once we get out of the parade, it’s like we’re starting off for a new season,” Reid told KMBC-TV. “Tonight is a night where a lot has happened, a lot of work has been put into it, and this is kind of the reward for that. But I think the guys know it’d be great to get a ring, but they’ve moved on.”
