upcoming tv series, Zero-daydepicts a hypothetical Chinese attack on Taiwan.

Trailer Zero-day Unveiled in Taipei on Tuesday during the island’s annual air drills, the 17-minute trailer for the 10-part series, which was also funded by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, shows China’s “search and rescue mission” on the brink of escalating into a full-scale invasion.

The trailer shows scenes of China imposing a naval blockade, triggering bank runs and panic, Taiwan’s military withdrawing from Kinmen, an isolated island off the Chinese coast, and includes terrifying broadcasts by Chinese state media to the Taiwanese public.

Many Taiwanese netizens expressed concern over the trailer.

“I cried when I saw the first scene,” one person commented on YouTube. “There are still many people in Taiwan who don’t know the seriousness of the perception war. I hope this drama can wake up more people.”

Among the viewers, Zero-dayPrerequisite.

“The trailer is so realistic, I can totally see how something like that would happen and I can imagine who would do it,” wrote one netizen.

Some expressed their determination to confront any threat from China.

“As a sergeant in the Republic of China Army, I will never allow my country’s territory to be invaded by the Red Army as long as I live,” one YouTube user commented.

The project is risky for many involved, given the sensitivity of the issue in China. The allure of a market of 1.4 billion people across the strait has led many Taiwanese in the entertainment industry to echo Beijing’s insistence that Taiwan is part of China, a sentiment that consistently shows is at odds with the views of most Taiwanese people.

Zero-day Producer Chen Shinmei time Several directors and actors reportedly dropped out of the project due to concerns about backlash in China.

“They usually have to sign contracts that include clauses prohibiting them from getting involved in politically sensitive issues, and violators must compensate them for any losses caused by it,” she said.

Sirens rang out across the city as the trailer fell, and residents in northern Taiwan received push notifications on their mobile phones warning them to evacuate due to a “missile/rocket threat.”

This week, Taiwan’s military also conducted its annual Han Kuang military exercises aimed at resisting aggression.

This year’s drills, which ran from Monday to Friday, were updated to include what Taiwan’s Defense Ministry called “unscripted” scenarios to better simulate wartime conditions. The changes, one defense analyst previously said, were a “dangerous move.” Newsweek The resolution was adopted in response to a “wake-up call” over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Taipei faces increasing pressure from China, which claims Taiwan as its territory but whose Communist Party-led government in Beijing has never governed it. Chinese President Xi Jinping has stressed that eventual unification with Taiwan is inevitable, by force if necessary.

China has been sending military aircraft across the median line of the Taiwan Strait, a de facto buffer zone between the two countries, on an almost daily basis. In May, Chinese forces surrounded Taiwan with air, ground and sea drills after the inauguration of Taiwan President Lai Ching-te, a critic of Beijing who emphasized Taiwan’s sovereignty in his inaugural speech.

CIA Director Bill Burns and other U.S. officials have said they believe President Xi Jinping is preparing his military with the capability to seize Taiwan by 2027.

The foreign ministries of Taiwan and China did not immediately respond to written requests for comment.
