Imagine a world where your work hours match the peaks and troughs of your body’s natural energy, instead of being tied to a strict schedule. This is not a distant fantasy. This is called “chronoworking,” and there’s a growing trend to synchronize the time you spend working with your body clock.

The COVID-19 pandemic has put flexible working arrangements in the spotlight, and the concept of chronoworking builds on this momentum. Coined by journalist Ellen Scott, it’s important to synchronize your work hours to the times when you feel most alert and focused. But is it just a passing trend or a real technique for increasing productivity and employee happiness?

Scott believes that in 2024, we will rethink the rigors of our typical 9-to-5 schedules and start thinking about working in sync with our body clocks. An early riser usually starts his day with a strong sense of purpose, but as time goes on, his energy level declines. Night owls, on the other hand, tend to shine in the evening and become more alert and efficient.

Adobe research shows that different generations have different preferences regarding optimal work hours. For example, twice as many Gen Z workers prefer working late nights compared to Gen X. Only a small percentage of baby boomers prefer to work the “grave shift,” and most of them prefer to start work early.

For night owls, dragging yourself out of bed for a 9 a.m. shift can be a challenge. Also, if you wake up early, it is difficult to maintain concentration until late at night. However, Chronoworking acknowledges that not everyone can thrive with a traditional workday, which prioritizes employee well-being and provides a win-win situation that increases productivity. This approach can also help companies retain top talent.

chronoworking in india

Why is there so much talk about chronoworking in India? India has a diverse workforce and many young professionals believe that flexible working arrangements can make a huge difference to their well-being and productivity. I believe that it has the potential to bring about This is in line with a global trend where companies are recognizing that happy and healthy employees perform better.

The way we work is changing and India is leading the way. Rather than sticking to a one-size-fits-all schedule, it’s important to know when you’re most productive and plan your work accordingly. That’s what chronoworking is all about in a nutshell.

India’s vibrant and diverse workforce provides unique opportunities for chronoworking to thrive. According to a study by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), India’s leading business organization, many young Indian workers (aged 22-35) would be significantly happier and more productive if they had flexible working arrangements. It became clear what he was thinking. This is in line with a global trend where companies are putting a spotlight on employee well-being. This is because companies recognize that happy and healthy employees tend to be more engaged and work efficiently.
