ISLAMABAD:

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza held a series of high-level meetings during his official visit to Egypt as part of the third round of Pakistan-Egypt Defence and Security Talks, the military’s media wing said on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), General Mirza called on Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Minister of Defence and Military Production General Abdel Mageed Ahmed Saqr, Admiral Osama Mounier Mohamed Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, and Professor Dr Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar.

The statement noted that discussions focused on enhancing bilateral military cooperation, regional security, counter-terrorism efforts, and broader strategic collaboration.

Both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening military-to-military ties, particularly in areas of joint training, defence exercises, and institutional cooperation.

In his meeting with the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, General Mirza emphasised the importance of religious and interfaith harmony in fostering tolerance and inclusivity, and in addressing the root causes of extremism and terrorism.

The Egyptian leadership lauded the professionalism and operational capabilities of the Pakistan Armed Forces and acknowledged their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.

Earlier, upon his arrival at the Ministry of Defence, the CJCSC was presented with a Guard of Honour by a contingent of the Egyptian Armed Forces.
