PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — It’s not often that someone from the Portland area gets to represent our country, but Clackamas High School senior Jazzy Davidson just returned from doing just that.

“It was amazing,” Davidson said. “It’s been a dream of mine since I was 10 years old.”

The five 2025 freshmen were part of Team USA’s FIBA U18 America’s Cup team, a tournament made up of teams from North, Central and South America.

It’s the first time the forward will wear the Stars and Stripes, but it likely won’t be the last.

Still, Davidson acknowledged that putting on a U.S. national team uniform for his first game will be different.

“It’s a bit of a surreal experience. It’s something I’ve always dreamed about and for it to actually happen, it feels like a dream,” Davidson said.

Not only did Davidson represent his country, but he also brought home a gold medal at the tournament.

“Just being from the U.S. makes me feel a lot of pride and it’s a little emotional now that it’s over,” she said of the moment her team won the tournament. “It was a really cool experience. It was really special and especially being able to do it with all my friends was really awesome.”

In fact, her favorite part of the experience wasn’t the wins, but the relationships.

“Probably just meeting the girls and becoming closer to the girls that I was already friends with, which I think is really amazing because those relationships last a lifetime,” Davidson said.

What happens next in Davidson’s life is where she’ll head to college.

She recently narrowed her list to six schools — University of Southern California, University of California, Los Angeles, Duke University, University of South Carolina, University of Texas and the University of Texas — but she’s in no rush to choose one.

“I plan on getting more refereeing in the fall and taking my time, making sure I experience all aspects of the schools I’m still considering. There’s nothing wrong with taking my time, it can only come from good things,” Davidson said.
