Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer, with many students and office workers taking the day off from school to enjoy the holiday.

This federal holiday, observed on the last Monday in May, honors American military personnel who have lost their lives in service to their country. This year, Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 27th.

Here’s a look at which establishments will be open and closed on Memorial Day 2024:

Most of the nation’s retail stores are open on Monday, with Walmart and Target staying open on Memorial Day.

All Food Lion stores will be open as usual, along with most Kroger-owned grocery stores. Aldi stores will be operating with reduced hours.

Notably, Costco warehouse stores are closed on Mondays. Be sure to check with your local grocery and retail stores to see if they have any closures or changed hours.

The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq (NDAQ) will be closed on Monday.

Federal Reserve Banks will be closed for the bank holiday. The same is true for most major banks, although ATMs and online banking will continue to work as usual.

The United States Postal Service does not deliver mail on Memorial Day.

Most UPS delivery services are also closed on Monday. Limited stores will be open, but UPS Express Critical is available for urgent packages that need to be delivered quickly.

FedEx services will also be suspended, except for customs restrictions on urgent, sensitive or potentially dangerous shipments.
