Brandon McManus is done with Washington.

The Commanders released the kicker, who was accused of sexual assault in a lawsuit filed last month, on Sunday night, in a team announcement.

McManus spent his first nine seasons with the Denver Broncos and made 30 of 37 field goal attempts and all of his extra points with the Jaguars last year. The Commanders acquired him on a one-year, $3.6 million deal after the team did not re-sign him this offseason. He was the only kicker on the Commanders roster this spring.

Brandon McManus accused of sexual assault

Last month, two Florida women filed a lawsuit alleging that McManus sexually assaulted them on a flight to London for a Jaguars game last season. The women, who were not named, were working as flight attendants on a charter flight to London for the Jaguars’ game against the Atlanta Falcons at Wembley Stadium. The trip was their first time working for the team, the women said.

The women say the flight “quickly turned into a party” and that McManus and his men disregarded their personal space, air travel safety and federal law. McManus allegedly tried to lure other passengers to the party, handing out $100 bills to the women in an attempt to get them to drink and dance.

The first woman said McManus tried to kiss her while she was sitting in her seat during turbulence and then pushed himself against her twice while he was serving her food and drinks. The second woman said McManus also pushed himself against her while food was being served on the plane, but when she confronted him he “just smirked and walked away.”

In a statement through his lawyer, McManus denied the allegations against him.

“To be clear, these are completely false and demonstrably false allegations made as part of a campaign to smear and disparage a talented and respected NFL player,” McManus’ attorney, Brett R. Gallaway, said in a statement. “We intend to vigorously defend Brandon’s rights and integrity and restore his reputation by showing that these allegations are, in fact, an attempt at extortion.”

The women also sued the Jaguars for allegedly failing to supervise McManus and creating a safe environment for staff. The Jaguars released a statement saying they were investigating “this matter.”

“Earlier today, we were made aware of a civil lawsuit that was filed against Brandon McManus on May 24th,” the Commanders said in a statement after the lawsuit was first reported. “We take allegations of this nature very seriously and are investigating the matter. We have been in contact with league office and Brandon’s representatives and will have no further comment at this time.”

This post will be updated with more information soon.
