Weather Summer starts cool, followed by warm weather Spring

Today’s high of 72 degrees makes it the coolest June 1st for Indianapolis in nine years. 72 degrees is the normal high temperature for May 10-12. This marks the fifth consecutive day of below-normal temperatures. This cool start to June also follows one of the warmest weather springs on record for Indianapolis.

March through May was the third warmest on record, and May of 2024 was the 10th warmest on record. This is not surprising, considering that 67% of days from March through May were warmer than normal.

Rain brings muggy dew points again, followed by warmth

Rain fell across much of central Indiana on Saturday, with occasional showers occurring late in the morning and into the afternoon. Rain will become more sporadic The rain will begin to fall in nature and gradually die down by sunrise Sunday morning, but if you were outside when it was raining, you definitely “felt” the humidity in the air.

The rain has brought dew points into the 60s. Humid conditions will continue over the next few days as temperatures rise. Depending on how quickly the skies clear, temperatures could reach 80 degrees in some locations on Sunday, with highs in the low to mid 80s Monday through Wednesday. It will feel a little more muggy each day.

Storms possible during warmer months

After Saturday’s rain clears, the chance for storms returns late Monday, with increased moisture and warmer temperatures bringing the chance for occasional showers and thunderstorms. Dry time guaranteed However, over the next week, storms are most likely to develop between Tuesday and Wednesday.

At this time, severe weather does not appear to be a possibility, however increased humidity will bring a few heavy and scattered rain showers over this period.

The pattern continues to change

By next weekend, temperatures are expected to drop back down to the 70s for a few days, following the first week of June. A cold wind from the northwest will bring in dry air masses. This condition is likely to continue from next weekend.
