The York softball team defeated Yarmouth, 13-3, in a five-inning game Monday in York, with McKayla Cortez hitting two doubles and driving in three RBI to earn the pitcher’s victory.

The Wildcats improved to 15-0, while the Clippers fell to 4-11.

Lindsay Rivers added two hits and two RBIs for York. Cortez also pitched 4 2/3 innings in relief, striking out 13 and allowing no hits, helping the pitchers secure the win.

NFL: The Washington Commanders announced Monday that they learned of a civil court lawsuit filed against kicker Brandon McManus last week.

A spokesman for the team said the team is investigating the matter and has spoken with McManus’ representative and the NFL office. ESPN reported that two women have filed suit against McManus, alleging that he sexually assaulted them on a charter flight to London last year while he was playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

ESPN reports, citing court documents not yet posted in Duval County’s public records database, that the women, identified as Jane Doe I and Jane Doe II, accuse McManus of rubbing up against them during the flight and of the Jaguars failing to supervise McManus or create a safe environment for staff serving the team. They are seeking more than $1 million in damages and are asking for a jury trial, according to ESPN.

NHL: The Seattle Kraken are set to name Dan Bylsma as coach, a move that would mark the 2009 Stanley Cup champion with Pittsburgh returning to manage an NHL team for the first time since 2017, according to people familiar with the matter.

The Kraken scheduled a “special announcement” press conference for Tuesday after Sportsnet first reported the decision. Bylsma served as head coach of the Kraken’s top affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds of the American Hockey League, for the past two seasons, leading the team to a return to the Calder Cup semifinals.

Fatal accident: A woman was killed when an out-of-control vehicle struck her during a drag race in Oceana County, Michigan, but she managed to push her 2-year-old daughter to safety seconds before the crash, police said.

The accident happened Sunday in the Silver Lake State Park sand dunes in western Oceana County, about 270 miles (430 kilometers) northwest of Detroit, according to MLive.com.

Police said the driver of a modified Jeep CJ lost control and veered off the race course into spectators, striking another vehicle which then struck spectator Kady Price, 33, of Pearson.

Police said Price pushed her 2-year-old daughter to safety just before she was hit by the car, so she didn’t suffer serious or further injuries.

Men’s Lacrosse: Chris Kavanagh scored five goals, his brother Pat had six assists and top-seeded Notre Dame (16-1) defeated Maryland (11-6) 15-5 on Monday to win its second consecutive NCAA men’s lacrosse championship.

Premier League: Unai Emery signed a new contract with Aston Villa on Monday, keeping him at the Premier League club until 2029.

Emery took over as manager in October 2022 with Villa just three points above the relegation zone.

This season he led the club to a fourth-placed finish and Champions League qualification.
