  • The wife of Corey Comperatore, who was killed at a Trump rally, said: Trump had not called her as of Monday.
  • Corey Comperatore died while trying to protect his family during an assassination attempt on President Trump at a rally.
  • Helen Comperatore said she got a call from Biden, and although she didn’t want to talk to him, she didn’t bear him any ill will.

The wife of Cory Comperatore, who was killed in the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, In an interview with the New York Post on Monday, the former president said he still hadn’t been in contact with her since Saturday’s shooting.

Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old former fire chief from Pennsylvania, was a Trump supporter and had been at the rally with his wife and daughters when he was shot while trying to protect them from gunfire, his family said.

In an interview with the New York Post published at 4:44 p.m. ET on Monday, his wife, Helen Comperatore, said her husband was her “hero” and that his last words were, “Get down!”

Helen Comperatore told the outlet she had not heard from Trump at the time, and that she had been shot at the rally, and that two other people were shot and seriously injured.

Representatives for the Trump campaign, the White House and the Biden campaign did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s requests for comment. BI attempted to reach Helen Comperatore via email.

In his first statement since Saturday’s shooting, President Trump posted to Truth Social: “I want to thank the United States Secret Service and all of law enforcement for their swift response to the shooting that occurred in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most of all, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the individual who died at the rally and the family of the other individual who was seriously injured.”

In another post on Sunday, Trump added: “Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for a recovery for those injured and our hearts are with our civilians who were killed in such a horrific manner.”

Trump’s team also shared a link to a GoFundMe page that the former president has “approved” and is raising money for the victims’ families. The page had raised more than $4.5 million as of Monday night.

Trump arrived in Milwaukee on Sunday for the Republican National Committee convention, which began Monday. He formally accepted the Republican nomination for president and announced that he had chosen Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio as his running mate.

Helen Comperatore told The Washington Post that the family received a call from President Joe Biden but never spoke with him.

“I didn’t speak to Mr. Biden. I didn’t want to speak to him,” she said. “My husband is a staunch Republican and he wouldn’t have wanted me to speak to him.”

Some Republicans, including Vance, have blamed Biden’s comments for the assassination attempt on Trump, but the FBI has not determined a motive for the shooting.

Helen Comperatore said she doesn’t believe Biden is responsible for her husband’s death. She told The Washington Post she would vote for Trump but doesn’t pay much attention to politics.

“I have no ill will towards Joe Biden,” she said, adding, “He didn’t do anything to my husband. Some sneaky 20-year-old kid did it.”
