Victims belonged to different tribes from interior of Sindh; woman’s brothers are said to be the main suspects
A newly married couple belonging to different clans was shot dead in a brutal attack on Thursday in Lasi Goth, within the limits of the Sohrab Goth police station. The victims Nasrullah, a security guard, and his wife Latifa had married of their own choice five months ago despite strong opposition from both families. Nasrullah belonged to the Langa community, while Latifa was from the Magsi tribe.
According to DSP Aurangzeb Khattak, police reached the scene on information provided by Nasir, Nasrullah’s brother, who was also residing with the couple. Several parts of the house were found splattered with blood, indicating that the victims had attempted to flee while the attackers chased them before shooting them dead.
Police said that at the time of the incident, Nasrullah had gone to the market to purchase food. During his absence, five suspects entered the house in the afternoon and killed Latifa. When Nasrullah returned, he was also shot by the attackers as they fled the scene. Eyewitnesses told police that three of the attackers were Latifa’s brothers, while two others remain unidentified.
Investigations revealed that the couple had earlier contracted a court marriage in Larkana. Both families opposed the marriage and registered a case against them, following which the court granted the couple bail. Efforts at reconciliation through a jirga between the two tribes failed, forcing the couple to relocate to Karachi in an attempt to escape the ongoing tribal hostility.
To avoid further threats, Nasrullah, along with his wife and brother, went into hiding and later rented a house in Lasi Goth. The DSP said Larkana police have been contacted to assist in the arrest of the woman’s brothers, who are believed to be the main suspects.
Meanwhile, Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho has taken strict notice of the incident and ordered the immediate arrest of all those involved. He has sought a detailed report from the DIG East and instructed investigators to remain in contact with the victims’ families and ensure a thorough and conclusive investigation.
The killing occurred just a week after another tragic incident in the same police jurisdiction, where the bodies of a woman and her three children were found hanging inside a house — an incident police described as a case of collective suicide.
