ISLAMABAD:

Cricket remained the most dominant entertainment topic in Pakistan, while local television dramas also emerged as a major focus of public interest, according to a report by Google released on Monday.

The report, titled “Year in Search 2025”, offers a picture of what captivated Pakistani users online throughout the year, ranging from sports and entertainment to governance, education and real-world crises.

According to the report, Pakistanis increasingly relied on Google Search to access timely information on pressing day-to-day issues, including a surge in searches related to flooding in Karachi and rising flood risks near the River Chenab.

Users actively searched for information about government initiatives such as the Punjab Socio-Economic Registry, the ‘Asaan Karobar Card’ and the Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme 2025.

Similarly, educational updates, including results and notices from the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and other examination bodies, were among the most searched topics.

Searches about gold prices and international developments, particularly news related to Iran, also featured prominently as Pakistanis sought to stay informed about global and economic developments.

Moreover, Pakistani users turned heavily towards local dramas for entertainment, with storylines and performances closely followed throughout the year.
