CHICAGO (AP) — Cody Bellinger, Ian Happ and Christopher Morrell each had RBI singles in Chicago’s three-run eighth inning and the Cubs beat the San Francisco Giants 5-2 on Tuesday night to snap a two-game losing streak.
Michael Bush led off the top of the eighth against relief pitcher Tyler Rogers (0-2) with a double over the right-center field wall for his second hit of the game, then Bellinger’s second hit bounced off the left side of the infield to break a 2-2 tie.
After Seiya Suzuki singled, Happ hit his second hit of the night down the right field line to make it 4 to 2. Morrell pinch-hit for a grounder RBI single to close out the comeback.
Dansby Swanson hit a two-run homer and the Cubs won for the fourth time in 12 games.
Tyson Miller (2-0) pitched the win for Justin Steele, getting four outs, and Keegan Thompson struck out three batters in the ninth inning to earn his first save.
Giants pitcher Curt Casali had two hits and two RBIs during the game, during which the team announced the death of Hall of Famer Willie Mays, the legendary outfielder who played 22 seasons with the team, first in New York and then after the franchise moved to San Francisco.
When the death of the 93-year-old Mays was announced on the left field video board in the top of the sixth inning, the crowd of 36,292 at Wrigley Field rose to their feet and saluted.
Giants starter Logan Webb gave up two runs and six hits over seven innings. The right-hander threw 101 pitches, striking out five and walking one before being replaced by Rogers.
Steele pitched well in his 10th start of the season, allowing just two runs and four hits over 6 2/3 innings. The left-hander struck out eight batters and walked two in four consecutive innings, but he left the game with the score tied at 2-2 after throwing 96 pitches on a warm night, missing out on his first win.
Swanson hit a reverse home run into the right-center field stands in the second inning to give Chicago a 2-0 lead. It was his seventh home run of the season.
Steele pitched four innings, retiring 12 of 14 batters he faced and allowing just two singles.
The Giants tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth inning when Steele walked Jorge Soler and Mike Yastrzemski, then Casali hit a double into the left-center field gap to score both runners.

Giants: Left-handed pitcher Blake Snell, who has been on the 15-day disabled list since June 3 (left groin soreness), threw bullpen pitches at San Francisco on Tuesday. “We’ll see how he feels tomorrow and then we’ll make a call,” manager Bob Melvin said. Snell, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, is 0-3 with a 9.51 ERA in six starts for San Francisco since signing a two-year, $62 million contract in March.
Cubs: Outfielder Mike Tauchman was placed on the 10-day disabled list before Tuesday’s game with a left groin injury and infielder Miles Mastrobuoni was promoted from Triple-A Iowa to replace Tauchman. Tauchman left the Cubs’ 7-6 loss to the Giants on Monday after singled in the third inning. Manager Craig Counsell said Tuesday that Tauchman “will probably be out four weeks.”
