Temperatures could soar as high as 112 degrees in Las Vegas, Phoenix and Palm Springs.
A dangerous and possibly record-breaking heat wave is moving west this week, affecting parts of California, Arizona and southern Nevada, including Las Vegas.
A heat wave warning was issued for the California Valley region starting Tuesday, with temperatures potentially reaching up to 108 degrees from Redding to Sacramento, Fresno and Bakersfield.
Extreme heat warnings are expected to be in effect from Las Vegas to the Lake Havasu City, Arizona, area on Wednesday.
Temperatures are expected to soar to 112 degrees Fahrenheit in Las Vegas, Phoenix and Palm Springs, California, by Thursday or Friday.
If temperatures in Las Vegas reach above 110 degrees Fahrenheit on Thursday, it will be the earliest such temperature on record for the month of June.
And if temperatures in Phoenix top 111 degrees on Thursday, the city will break its daily record for highest temperature ever, set in 2016.
Reno, Nevada, and Fresno, California, will also approach daily records on Thursday.
This weather is considered a major heatstroke risk: excessive exposure to heat can cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion, which, if left untreated, can lead to heat stroke.
Further north, temperatures could reach the mid-90s in Salt Lake City and Boise, Idaho.
