David Sauder has been recommended to become the next dean of the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University, effective July 8, 2024. Pending approval by the Michigan State University Board of Trustees, Sauder will succeed Judith Whipple, who has served as interim dean since August 2022.

Sauder currently serves as Professor and Senior Associate Dean for Research at the University of Connecticut Business School and is a professor in the Boucher Department of Management and Entrepreneurship at the University of Connecticut. Sauder previously served as Interim Campus Director at the University of Connecticut at Stamford, Interim Dean and Associate Dean for Graduate Programs at the University of Connecticut Business School. Prior to joining academia, Sauder worked as a strategy consultant in the private sector based in New York and London.

“Thoughtful and forward-thinking, Dr. Sauder is a consensus-building leader with a strong commitment to advancing excellence in teaching and research,” said Michigan State University Interim President Thomas Jaczko. “I am confident that his breadth and depth of experience will serve him well as the university’s next leader.”

Mr. Souder’s research focuses on corporate short-termism and long-term thinking, and he is a frequent speaker to media and business organizations on related topics. He earned his BA in Finance and Strategic Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and his PhD in Strategic Management and Organizations from the University of Minnesota.

“I am honored to join the Michigan State University community as dean of the Eli Broad College of Business,” said Souder. “The college has a long history of leadership among public business schools, and I look forward to working with the Broad’s leadership team, staff, faculty, students, alumni, and many partners across the university to ensure that the Broad’s mission and vision continue to inspire the future of business.”
