* Heat warning 12pm to 8pm*

It’s a somewhat subjective rating of the weather for that day on a scale of 0 to 10.

1/10: A stubbornly sticky, stagnant stench of high fever that won’t go away.

  • today: Partly sunny, with a chance of localized storms in the afternoon. High: 95-100.
  • tonight: Partly cloudy, and very muggy. Low: 75-80.
  • tomorrow: Partly cloudy with a chance of afternoon storms. High: 93-97.

The Weather Misery Index is spiking, and both temperature and humidity are nearing their highest levels of discomfort for July. No major cold front appears to be coming to “save the day.” However, we are watching a weakening front that may bring temporary cooling on Friday, and an increased chance of storms later in the weekend to combat the growing drought that is of particular concern west of Washington, DC.

Today (Tuesday): It will be hot and humid with a mix of partly cloudy and hazy skies, with highs again in the mid to near 100 degrees. With high humidity (dew points in the low to mid 70s) and a heat index above 105, extreme caution is advised for outdoor activities. Winds are coming out of the south at around 5 mph, which isn’t helping matters. Localized small thunderstorms are possible late afternoon and early evening. Reliability: High

tonight: Very hot and humid conditions will continue with lows only reaching the mid to high 70s F to near 80 F and partly cloudy skies. Light winds around 5 mph coming from the south. Reliability: High

Tomorrow (Wednesday): A mix of sun and clouds, maybe a little more cloudy than Tuesday. Highs will rise to near the mid 90s, but it’s still very muggy with dew points in the mid 70s. Afternoon showers and storms are possible, but rain is more common than it is likely to be, so it’s a win-or-lose lottery. Winds will be increasing from the south to 10-15 mph, with higher gusts. Confidence: Medium

tomorrow night: Scattered rain and thunderstorms are possible, but they will not be widespread or last long. Mostly cloudy and muggy, with lows in the mid to upper 70s F. Reliability: Moderate

Thursday Partly sunny spells will be seen and it will be a bit cooler with highs in the low to mid 90s Fahrenheit and moderate to high humidity. Showers and storms will again be possible in the area. More showers and storms may be more likely Thursday night as lows settle into the low to mid 70s Fahrenheit. Confidence: Moderate

Friday Showers and thunderstorms will be most likely. Heavy rain will also be possible. Skies will be partly cloudy with highs a little cooler and humidity will remain moderate to high, aiming for temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. Rain chances will continue Friday night with lows in the lower to mid 70s. Reliability: Medium

of weekend While generally dry, scattered showers and storms are possible Saturday and Saturday night, especially east of Washington, DC. Highs will warm back into the low 90s F as partly sunny skies turn to clear skies Saturday, then warm back into the mid to upper 90s F as mostly sunny skies turn to clear skies Sunday. Lows Saturday night will be in the 70s F. Moderate to high humidity will continue to plague the forecast, with dew points in the upper 60s to low 70s F. Confidence: Moderate
