*Heat warning Today from 11am to 8pm*

Today’s Daily Chart

It’s a somewhat subjective rating of the weather for that day on a scale of 0 to 10.

3/10: It’s still hot, but a little better than the past few days, so I’ll give it 1 point for that, plus an additional 2 points for a cold front that will bring an end to this historic heat wave, but will likely produce strong to severe storms this afternoon and into the evening.

Quick Forecast

  • today: Still very hot and humid with a chance of scattered storms in the afternoon. Highs: Mid to near 100 degrees.
  • tonight: Scattered storms possible in the evening. Low temperatures: Lower to mid 70s.
  • tomorrow: Partly sunny, not too hot. Locally stormy? Highs: Mid 80s to near 90.

Detailed forecast

This ridiculous heat will continue for another day today, but maybe not as much as the past few days, but it will remain bearably warm for July tomorrow through the weekend. The cold front signaling the end of this historic heat wave will probably produce scattered strong to severe storms this afternoon and evening. There will be a low chance of rain Thursday and Friday, with more uncertainty over the weekend.

Today (Wednesday): There will be plenty of sunshine in the morning, but increasing clouds and developing storms in the afternoon will keep high temperatures cooler than the past few days. Most locations will see temperatures reach the mid to near 100s Fahrenheit, with heat indices near or above 105 as humidity remains high. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon and evening as the cold front approaches. Strong to heavy rain with strong winds and flooding is also possible. Reliability: Moderate to High

tonight: A chance of showers and storms remains possible overnight, but becomes less likely overnight. Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy with lows in the lower to mid 70s F. Reliability: Moderate

Tomorrow (Thursday): As the front moves far south, dry air will move in from the north. As humidity drops, we will see some sunshine and temperatures will drop to the mid 80s to near 90s. Isolated showers and storms are possible, especially south and east of Washington, DC. Reliability: Medium to High

tomorrow night: Mostly cloudy, not too humid, and a bit cooler than recent nights, with lows in the mid 60s to low 70s. Reliability: High

Future outlook

A pretty average summer Fridayand that’s good enough for us. With the front moving south, we’ll see partly sunny skies, tolerable humidity, and afternoon highs in the mid to near 90s F. Humidity will increase again Friday night, with lows likely in the upper 60s to low 70s F. Reliability: Medium-High

of weekend Not much confidence in the forecast as we’re uncertain as to whether the front to our south will move back north. If it does, rain and storms will be back in the forecast. Either way, humidity will increase again with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 on Saturday and highs in the 90s to low 90s on Sunday. Confidence: Low to Medium
