It’s a somewhat subjective rating of the weather for that day on a scale of 0 to 10.

6/10: Humidity is thankfully low for a second day in a row, but it’s shaping up to be hotter than it was on Monday before Wednesday’s heatwave.

  • today: Mostly sunny days with low humidity. Highs: 89-95 degrees.
  • tonight: Partly cloudy with muggy conditions returning. Low: 72-78.
  • tomorrow: Very hot, with a chance of afternoon storms. Highs: 95-100.

Tomorrow’s surge in heat and humidity is likely to be as extreme as last weekend’s, but thunderstorms could develop by late afternoon or evening, bringing some much-needed rain. The last time Washington, DC, saw less than an inch of rainfall in June was the hot, dry summer of 1988. Only 0.48 inches of rain has fallen so far in June. Temperatures will return to the 80s on Thursday and Friday, rising into the 90s this weekend with a risk of storms.

Today (Tuesday): It will be mostly sunny with temperatures in the low to mid 90s and slightly warmer, but humidity will be tolerable and dew points will stay in the 50s. Winds will decrease on Monday, with a light wind mainly out of the northwest at 5 to 10 mph, becoming more southwesterly as the sun sets. Confidence: High

tonight: Humidity will return, with a few clouds and lows only dropping into the 70s F. Light winds will be out of the south at 5 to 10 mph. Reliability: High

Tomorrow (Wednesday): While there is no official “average day” that equates to a “good day,” this day easily meets that criteria. It will be mostly sunny from morning through midday, with temperatures rising to the mid to near 100°F. Humidity will be moderate to high (dew points in the mid to upper 60s F), and the heat index will reach 100 to 105. If you must be outdoors, use caution and stay hydrated. The highest temperature recorded on the calendar in Washington DC was 101° in 1952.

Showers and thunderstorms possible by late afternoon or evening. Some storms may be severe with strong winds and large hail. Many locations will get at least 1/4 to 1/2 inch of rain, with locally heavier amounts possible in some locations. Winds will be from the southwest at 10 to 15 mph, with higher gusts near the storm’s edge. Reliability: Medium

tomorrow night: Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible in the evening and overnight, with lows dropping into the mid to lower 60s Fahrenheit and partly to mostly cloudy skies. Reliability: Moderate

Thursday and Friday It will remain mostly sunny (though some clouds may remain early Thursday morning). Highs will be in the upper 80s with low to moderate humidity. There will be a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms each day in the late afternoon or evening. Partly cloudy Thursday and Friday night with lows in the 60s to 70s Thursday night and rising into the 70s with increased humidity Friday night. Reliability: Medium

of weekend Humidity will return to moderate to high with highs in the low 90s on Saturday and mid 90s on Sunday, with partly sunny skies. Rain and storms will again be a possibility, especially on Sunday judging by current conditions. Saturday night will be partly to mostly cloudy and muggy, with lows in the mid to upper 70s F, with rain and storms possible. Reliability: Moderate
