India’s narrow six-run victory over Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 match on Sunday sent waves of joy across the globe as fans of Rohit Sharma’s team celebrated in style. India’s win in the match dealt a major blow to Pakistan’s Super 8 hopes but all but ensured India’s passage to the next round. As the world celebrated India’s victory, the Delhi Police posted an X tagging the NYPD. The post on social media went viral.
“Hey @NYPDnews. We just heard two loud noises. One was ‘Indiannnn India!’ and the other was probably a broken TV. Can you take a look?” the post read.
Jasprit Bumrah’s three-wicket haul put the Pakistan batting line-up under pressure and Rishabh Pant’s fightback save the match earned India a narrow victory at a packed Nassau County Stadium, keeping India’s dream of qualifying for the World Cup alive with two group stage matches remaining.
As the game ended and the national flag was lit up at Nassau County Stadium in New York, fans in the stadium immediately broke out into energetic dancing to the beat of drums.
Sudheer Kumar Choudhury, a huge fan of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Team India, was extremely happy with the performance of the Men in Blue bowlers in this historic encounter.
“It’s an incredible win. When India scored 119, we thought Pakistan would win this match easily. But this turned out to be a historic match. Bumrah and all the other bowlers bowled well,” he told ANI.
Another fan said Bumrah’s delivery changed the course of the match and symbolised India’s comeback.
“India’s comeback was special, especially Bumrah’s delivery. It changed the course of the game. I’m really happy. It’s a great win,” said the fan.
Fans got to enjoy every second of the game and were at the stadium all morning without missing a ball.
“We were here since morning and this match was worth every moment. It was India’s match,” one fan said.
But the match caused heartbreak for Pakistani fans who sold tractors to get tickets worth $3,000.
“I sold my tractor to buy tickets worth $3,000. When I saw India’s score, I didn’t think we would lose this match. The match was in our hands but people were disheartened after Babar Azam was dismissed… Congratulations everyone,” said a fan.
Even back in his hometown of Kolkata, Team India fans said they were hopeful that the team would bring home the cup and end India’s long-awaited ICC trophy haul.
“India always wins in good form. The entire team played well and that’s why we won. I think the Indian team will take home the cup,” Fan said.
