Delhi Congress leader Devender Yadav on Monday launched a recruitment drive for the Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress (DPYC) elections ahead of next year’s state assembly polls in the Indian capital. DPYC leaders can also contest in the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) elections.
“DPYC is Rahul Gandhi’s vision”Neta Bano – Neta Chuno“We are insisting on enrolling a record number of young members (Become a Leader, Choose a Leader). The Youth Congress acts as an important gateway into politics and Delhi, being the heartbeat of the country, influences the course of politics across the country,” he said.
The BJP, which once ruled Delhi for 15 consecutive years (1998-2013), failed to win any seats in the state assembly elections in 2015 and 2020. The party also failed to gain any seats in the Lok Sabha elections in 2014, 2019 and 2024.
However, the party is aiming to regain its dominance in the national capital following its strong performance in the Lok Sabha elections.
Yadav said Rahul Gandhi’s proposal for democratically electing Youth Congress office-bearers would ensure equal opportunities for individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
“This will enable talented people to be promoted to key positions in the party. By increasing the number of youth members, the Democratic Youth Committee believes it will be able to develop capable leaders who can provide effective and dynamic leadership to the state,” he said.
Former state legislator and publicity head Anil Bhardwaj, IYC general secretary and Delhi in-charge Poorna Chandra Pandey, general secretary Khushboo Sharma, DPYC president Ranvijay Singh Lochab, IYC general secretary Rishi Bhargava, PRO Mukul Gupta, IYC election commissioner Maqsood Mirza, DPYC executive unit president Subham Sharma and a large number of Youth Congress activists participated in the party entry drive.
“The challenge posed by the state assembly elections scheduled for February next year is that the Congress party and its affiliates in Delhi will have to work hard to expose the BJP’s authoritarianism and the corruption and failure of the AAP government. These will bode well for restoring the Congress party’s dominance in the national capital,” Yadav further said.
