Derrick White is one win away from an NBA championship, but that may not be the only thing the Celtics guard is aiming for in the coming months.
White could potentially join teammates Jayson Tatum and Jrue Holiday in Paris if the current squad is unable to play. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski,.
“We’re hearing that Derrick White has emerged as a potential candidate for the U.S. Summer Olympics team if Kawhi Leonard doesn’t successfully recover from the knee inflammation that kept him out for the second half of the playoffs,” Wojnarowski said on NBA Countdown ahead of Friday’s Game 4.
Wojnarowski said people have seen White’s “two-way ability” throughout the season and postseason.
The roster currently includes his two teammates, as well as LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Joel Embiid, Devin Booker, Anthony Davis, Anthony Edwards, Bam Adebayo, Tyrese Haliburton and Leonard.
Leonard is dealing with inflammation in his right knee and it is unclear how long he will be sidelined.
The Olympics begin on July 26th.
In other news, Wojnarowski reported that agreeing to a contract extension this summer is a huge priority for the Celtics and White.
