A’ja Wilson had 19 points and 14 rebounds to help the U.S. women’s Olympic basketball team bounce back from a rare exhibition loss to beat Germany 84-57 on Tuesday night.

The U.S. loses to the WNBA All-Star team on Saturday before traveling to London for a friendly against Germany. The two teams are in the same Olympic pool and will meet again in Paris on Aug. 4.

The U.S. scored the first seven points of the game to jump out to a 22-9 lead and built a 13-point lead after the first 10 minutes.

Germany, making their Olympic debut, closed the gap to 27-20 midway through the second quarter, but couldn’t get any closer as the U.S. led 44-32 at halftime.

The United States scored the first seven points of the third quarter, and Germany never threatened in the second half.

Luisa Geiselseder led Germany with 13 points.

The U.S. side was without resting player Britney Griner, whose first trip overseas since being arrested in Russia in 2022 and sentenced to nine years in prison for drug possession and smuggling. Ten months later, Griner was released after a high-profile prisoner swap.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist is back on the U.S. team.

Members of the U.S. Men’s Olympic Team sat courtside to watch the U.S. defeat Germany, 92-88, in a men’s exhibition game on Monday night.
