- Not only could Destiny 2’s new meta see the original Light subclasses being left behind due to the influence of the Prismatic subclass, but the latest balance changes could also see Titans abandon their go-to Supers.
- Because we’ve reworked the Ward of Dawn Super to be more defensively focused, you’ll need a specific exotic, Helm of Saint-14, to maintain its damage dealing ability.
- Titan Supers that rely on specific Exotics like Ward of Dawn limit the diversity of Titan builds, so it’s unfortunate that such a popular build now requires an Exotic to function as it did before.
so far, Destiny 2‘s new prismatic subclasses seem to be shaking up the meta drastically, leading to concerns that some of the original light and dark subclasses may be left behind for the time being. But comparisons to the new prismatic subclasses aside, the recent rework of one of Titan’s best Supers, Ward of Dawn, has fallen victim to a problematic trend that severely limits its viability in endgame content. Specifically, the Ward of Dawn Super now requires players to invest in a build based around one specific Exotic armor piece in order to reach its full potential.
This is a trend that many of the Titan class Supers fall into, but it would be particularly unfortunate to see Titan’s signature Super, Ward of Dawn, suffer the same fate, as it is one of Titan’s most unique support Supers. Destiny 2 We’ll be rebalancing some Titan Supers that rely on specific Exotics before other Titan subclasses find themselves in the same predicament.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape has added new subclass-themed shaders to the game that are sure to cause some controversy down the line.
Why Destiny 2’s Ward of Dawn Titan Super rework matters
The rework is reportedly intended to differentiate Titan’s Ward of Dawn super from Warlock’s Well of Radiance super, with Ward acting as a more defensive super and Well acting as a more offensive super. Bungie’s TWID states:[…] “We’re moving Ward of Dawn away from its current offensive capabilities unless specifically incorporated,” What this ultimately means is that Ward of Dawn will no longer essentially provide players with the 25% damage buff from Weapons of Light, although this utility will still be available via the Helm of Saint-14 exotic armor.
Considering that Light Weapons was one of the main reasons players introduced this Super into endgame content like dungeons and raids. Destiny 2this rework essentially forces players to use the exotic Saint-14 Helm, severely limiting Titan build creation options. Otherwise, without this exotic, Ward of Dawn is no longer a top-tier Titan build, as Titan’s reworked Ward of Dawn super does not provide any more utility than a Barricade Shield with the Void Bastion aspect.
Patch Notes
- Guardian of the Dawn:
- Light Armor:
- Removed Armor of Light’s overshield. Ward of Dawn now instantly applies a full void overshield to the caster and any allies who enter the dome.
- Instead, Armor of Light grants players within the Ward of Dawn additional damage resistance: 30% against enemy players and 60% against enemy combatants.
- The effective health of players inside the Ward of Dawn dome will remain roughly the same as before, compared to PvE combatants.
- Players in a Ward of Dawn will have significantly lower effective health than before compared to other players in PvP, and stacking Bastion Barricades within the Ward to gain an additional layer of overshields will not increase their health further.
- Allies near Ward of Dawn domes now have Void Overshield applied gradually over time, similar to the volume behind Bastion barricades.
- No longer provides “Weapons of Light” by default. This behavior has been moved to the Saint’s Helm 14 benefit.
- Ward of Dawn casters can now generate additional power orbs by killing enemies with melee attacks within or near the Ward of Dawn dome.
- Light Armor:
Destiny 2’s Titan Super relies heavily on specific exotic armor.
- Burning Maul relies on Pyrogale Mantle
- Thundercrash relies on the breastplate of a fallen star
- Dawn Ward relies on the Helm of Saint-14
- Blade Fury relies on Wormgod Caress or Synthoceps
This is especially problematic because Ward of Dawn is not the only Titan Super that has to rely on specific Exotic armor to be worthwhile in endgame content, meaning most Titan Supers are overdue for buffs in upcoming updates. Destiny 2 Address this long-standing issue.
