Ryan Reynolds reprises his role as Deadpool, this time joined by Hugh Jackman.
Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine will team up Wade Wilson/Deadpool (Reynolds) and Logan/Wolverine (Jackman).
The film contains subtle callbacks, Easter eggs, and references to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Here are all the details you may have missed.
At a surprise birthday party, Wade tells Buck, “No lines, Buck.”
This is a callback to Deadpool 2, when Buck (Randall Reeder) makes a side note in a bar about Kubler-Ross’s cycle of grief.
Wade said annoyed, “Geez, Buck. You’re not getting any lines.”
Rob McElhenney has a cameo as a TVA soldier.
McElhenney and Reynolds are co-owners of English soccer club Wrexham AFC, and McElhenney’s “Deadpool and Wolverine” cameo was teased in an episode of the documentary series “Welcome to Wrexham” released in May.
Wade wakes up in The Void to find an Avengers: Secret Wars comic book on the ground.
This could be a reference to Marvel Studios’ next film, Avengers: Secret Wars, which was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2022.
Bodybuilder Aaron W. Reed, who played Reynolds’ muscular body double in Free Guy, will star as Juggernaut.
Juggernaut is one of the supporting characters that Deadpool and Wolverine will encounter in The Void. Reed previously served as Reynolds’ body double in Shawn Levy’s 2021 film Free Guy.
Deadpool and Wolverine enter Liefeld’s store called Just Feet.
This is a tribute to Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld.
Gordon Reynolds is credited as Nicepool. Gordon is Ryan Reynolds’ fake twin brother.
Reynolds plays a long-haired variant of Deadpool named Nicepool. The credits list the role as played by a person named Gordon Reynolds. This is not a relative of Reynolds, but rather the actor alias.
Reynolds previously Pseudonym Champ Nightingale in the movie “He posted fake Amazon reviews for his own brand, “3 Fast and Furious.”
Three of Blake and Ryan’s four children make cameo appearances.
Reynolds and Lively have four daughters together: James, Inez, Betty, and Orin. In Deadpool & Wolverine, James is credited as the screaming mutant. Inez plays Kidpool, and Orin has a cameo as Babypool. Lively also plays Ladypool, a female version of Deadpool, in the film.
Wrexham AFC player Paul Mullin makes a cameo appearance as a variant named Welshpool.
He is one of 100 different Deadpool subspecies that Deadpool and Wolverine battle later in the film.
Deadpool’s battle against 100 variants features a subtle tribute to the late comic book creator Stan Lee.
Lee made memorable cameos in various Marvel movies, and since his death in 2018, he has remained a revered figure in the MCU.
In “Deadpool & Wolverine,” the title characters battle mutants inside a bus that has an ad featuring Lee’s photo.
The film ends with a callback to The Avengers.
After saving the world, Deadpool suggests eating shawarma with Wolverine.
“You can eat it,” Wolverine replied.
“The Avengers discovered shawarma,” Deadpool said, referring to the dish the superheroes ate after the Battle of New York in The Avengers.
A pizza box in Wade’s apartment says “Feige’s Celebrity.”
This is a tribute to Marvel president and Deadpool & Wolverine producer Kevin Feige.
The credits include the dedication “To Henry Delaney.” Henry is the son of Rob Delaney, who plays Peter.
Henry was diagnosed with brain cancer in January 2018 and died at the age of 2. Rob published a memoir about his son, “A Heart That Works,” in 2022.
There is also a tribute to the late production designer Ray Chang.
Chang died in April at the age of 56. The cause of death was not disclosed.
“This film is dedicated to the memory of Raymond Chan,” the film’s credits read. “Ray was our rock. His contributions to this film and so many others were a gift never to be taken for granted and never to be forgotten. Ray, we will miss you.”
The credits praise Len Wein for his “significant contributions to the X-Men.”
In “Deadpool & Wolverine,” four people are credited with creating Wolverine: Len Wein, John Romita Sr., Herb Triumph, and Roy Thomas.
Wein also receives another thank you in the credits, with the sentence, “The producers would like to acknowledge Len Wein’s many contributions to the X-Men.”
This may be a response to a controversy that erupted in April, when Wayne’s widow, Christine Varada, criticized Marvel’s former editor-in-chief Roy Thomas for being credited as co-creator of Wolverine, rather than giving comic book writers and artists credits as creators, rather than editors.
Wayne, who passed away in 2017, was best known as the co-creator of Wolverine and the DC Comics character Swamp Thing, as well as the X-Men characters Nightcrawler, Storm and Colossus.
