The Los Angeles Dodgers were World Series champions for the second time in five seasons and first full season since 1988. It took a very ugly Game 5 to get them there. They drink it with champagne.
They entered Wednesday with a 3-1 series lead, but the Dodgers suffered a crushing loss to the New York Yankees in Game 4, and were probably a little nervous, falling behind 5-0, but it was a huge upset. In a come-from-behind turn, he won the Commissioner’s Award trophy in 7. -6 wins.
Few saw this victory coming when the postseason began, even for one of the most talented batting lineups in baseball. The Dodgers, whose rotation was decimated by injuries, showed enough quality pitching to dominate and make things work offensively.
Freddie Freeman, who hit a record four consecutive home runs in the opening game of the Fall Classic, was deservedly named World Series MVP after the game.
The Yankees were supposed to become the first team in World Series history to force their way through Game 6 after falling behind 0-3. Early in Game 5, Aaron Judge defeated the demons of the postseason with a two-run homer in the first inning, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit back-to-back RBI hits for the Yankees to score another run.
It was a tough start for Dodgers forward Jack Flaherty. He had a more than solid performance in Game 1, but on Wednesday, he gave up 4 earned runs and retired after 1/3 of an inning. In the third inning, Giancarlo Stanton’s home run off Ryan Brazier gave them a five-run lead.
Gerrit Cole, on the other hand, was doing exactly what the Yankees paid him to do. He pitched four hitless innings to lead off the game, and then a whopping fifth inning happened.
A series of three major defensive mistakes tied the game, and the Dodgers scored five earned runs to tie the game as Yankee Stadium went from raucous to stunned. First, the judge dropped the easy fly. In second place, Anthony Volpe tried to catch the first runner and bounced a throw to third base. Third, Gerrit Cole refused to cover first base with his usual ground ball.
The Yankees took the lead in the sixth inning on Stanton’s sacrifice fly, but the Dodgers took the lead in the seventh inning when Tommy Kahnle loaded the bases with no outs. Austin Wells interfered with the catcher and gave Shohei Ohtani a free base, followed by two sacrifice flies and the winning run.
After falling behind by five points, the Dodgers emerged as the World Series champion, thanks almost entirely to the Yankees. Blake Treinen pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings to extend the lead into the ninth inning, and Walker Buehler, the Dodgers’ likely Game 7 starter, delivered a game that will make Yankees fans sick for years to come. Finished.
New York had a chance to make history by simply sending the series back to Los Angeles and could instead watch another giant of MLB celebrate the World Series in the Bronx.

The Dodgers parade begins at 11 a.m. Friday and concludes with an event at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers didn’t get to hold a parade after winning the championship in 2020, but this time will be different.
Freddie Freeman is your 2024 World Series MVP
He opened the Fall Classic with a home run in a record four straight games and had another important RBI tonight. He had no choice but to play first base for the Dodgers.
Again, one of the best seasons in baseball history.
In MLB history,
More than 30 players hit 50 HR during the season More than 200 players played SB 50 times during the season Over 150 players won MVP Over 1500 players won the WS
Only one player has achieved all four (in the same season or not): Shohei Ohtani.
Did Juan Soto just play his last game in a Yankees uniform?
Juan Soto almost certainly earned some money this postseason. The only question is whether the Yankees will give it to him. Soto’s free agency is considered the second-most lucrative deal in MLB history, behind Ohtani’s $700 million deal, and could be even more valuable when factoring in inflation from the Dodgers star’s postponement. .
The Yankees and Mets have emerged as Soto’s biggest suitors, but it was reported earlier this week that the Dodgers were interested. It would cost a lot of money for the Yankees to bring this team back.
Shohei Ohtani is World Series Champion
Although he didn’t do much in the World Series, Shohei Ohtani helped lead the Dodgers to the World Series. He is currently the World Series Champion, Japan Series Champion, and World Baseball Classic Champion.
Arguably the most talented player in baseball history, there was one big thing missing from his resume: All he needed was to join a Dodgers team that needed him. His 2024 season will be legendary in Japan.
Oh yeah, he can pitch next year too.
This was Walker Buehler’s first career save.
Final: Dodgers 7, Yankees 6
The Dodgers officially won their eighth World Series title and first since 2020.
Dodgers win the World Series
That’s it! With the Dodgers’ victory, they officially won the World Series with 4 wins and 1 loss.
Austin Wells struck out and the Dodgers had one out left. Alex Verdugo is currently with the Yankees.
Anthony Volpe grounded out to third base, and there was one out in the 9th inning.
Walker Buehler is currently on the mound for the Dodgers in the 9th inning.
Reiter struck out Edman and Smith ended the inning with a grounder to third base. The Yankees will head into the bottom of the 9th inning with a chance to advance to the World Series.
Kiké Hernandez was also just given a walk and Aaron Boone is heading to the mound. Mark Leiter Jr. is here to end the Yankees’ inning and keep the lead to one run.
Teoscar Hernandez had just led off with a base hit in the ninth inning, and now Taylor would run in his place and end the game in left field. After Weaver repeatedly attempted to throw to first base, Taylor had just advanced to second base on a balk.
Stanton hit the first pitch of his at-bat to right, and Treinen struck out Anthony Rizzo, ending the inning.
The Dodgers were three outs away from winning the World Series.
And Treinen had just walked Jazz Chisholm. He is currently up to 37 pitches with one out in the eighth inning before Dave Roberts takes the mound. Treinen will remain in the game for the time being.
Juan Soto grounded out for the first out, but Aaron Judge followed up with a perfect double to left. The Yankees are in position to take the lead again in the last eight innings.
Weaver only threw 13 pitches there, so there’s a good chance he’ll stick with the Dodgers’ 4-5-6 until the top of the ninth inning.
