AMRITSAR: Police have busted two more Pakistan-sponsored drug smuggling rings after arresting six people and seizing 8 kg of heroin and three pistols from the possession of suspects. The move comes a day after Amritsar police busted two cross-border drug smuggling cartels run by Pakistan-based smugglers, arresting three drug peddlers and seizing 9.2 kg of heroin. Acting on a tip-off that the duo was about to deliver a drug consignment, Inspector General of Police (Punjab Police) Gaurav Yadav said a police team from Amritsar region spotted and intercepted the suspects near a brick kiln in Bachwind village. The suspects have been identified as Gurbij Singh and Jaskaran Singh, both residents of Manjhi village in Amritsar. The police team recovered six kg of heroin and three pistols — one 9mm Glock and two .32 calibre pistols — from their possession and also seized a motorcycle, Yadav said. In a separate operation, a patrol team of Amritsar Rural Police arrested four persons, including a father-son duo, involved in the smuggling trade of two kg of heroin near Noorpur village under Lopoke police station limits, Yadav said. The arrested were identified as Balbir Singh and his son Aakashdeep Singh, both residents of Kohari in Amritsar. The other two arrested persons, who were meant to receive the contraband, have been identified as Phillips and Jobanjit Singh, residents of Mlechak village in Amritsar. TNN
