New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has asked Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader JP Nadda and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge to correct their rhetoric, show caution and show courtesy to prominent campaigners. He directed that a formal memo be issued to ensure compliance.

This is the commission’s unprecedented order to the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress after the quality of campaigning by star campaigners plummeted.

EC comes down hard on both Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress

The EC has come down heavily on both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress for campaigning along caste, community, language and religion lines.

The pollster has instructed star campaigners from both parties to refrain from religious and communal overtones in their campaigning. The ECI also asked the BJP to desist from making election speeches that could lead to division in society.

The EC has directed Parliament to ensure that star campaigners do not make statements that give the false impression that the Indian Constitution can be abolished or sold. Further, while speaking on the Agniveer plan, the pollster has asked Congress campaigners and candidates not to politicize the Armed Forces and refrain from making potentially divisive statements regarding the socio-economic composition of the Armed Forces. .

Observations of EC regarding the socio-cultural environment.

The Commission has observed that India’s socio-cultural environment is a permanent preserve and cannot be victimised for elections. The EC also said that the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress cannot be allowed to undermine the tradition of a quality electoral experience for the Indian electorate.

The Election Commission has debunked all the allegations made by the BJP and Congress against each other and rejected their respective defenses. The committee pointed out that the ruling party should bear special responsibility during election periods, and that opposition parties should not be given unlimited leeway.

The first five rounds of voting took place on April 19th, April 26th, May 7th, May 13th, and May 20th. The next two rounds of voting will take place on May 25th and June 1st. The 2024 Sabah state election will be held in stages over a six-week marathon from April 19 to June 1, divided into seven elections. Results will be announced on June 4th.
