NEW YORK — Edwin Diaz’s nightmare season was thrown into further disarray when the Mets placed their closer on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday with a right shoulder injury. The team recalled left-hander Josh Walker to replace Diaz before their 10-3 series loss to the Dodgers at Citi Field.
Diaz hasn’t pitched since missing his fourth save of the season on Saturday. He has missed three of his past four save opportunities and earned the other one, giving him a 9.58 ERA in his past 10 appearances dating back to April 29.
In Diaz’s absence, the Mets will rely on setup men Adam Ottavino, Reid Garrett, Jorge Lopez and Jake Diekman to close out games.
