A tough competition is there on two seats, but in the coming days, we will figure out those as well
– Congress leader Komatireddy Venkat Reddy
Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Live: They (BJP) should talk about the jobs that were provided by PM Modi, and why the poor are getting poorer and the rich getting richer. Once again Congress’ real face has come in front of the country…such a racist comment that ‘if you are from Northeast you look like Chinese, if you are from North, you look like a foreigner…’ what kind of a mentality is this, they include ‘tukde-tukde gang in the party and keeps a mentality of dividing the country…what kind of poison are they spitting?…since they couldn’t compete with PM Modi’s development, his sincerity…when they couldn’t see the borders of India secure and our security forces becoming strong, they are making such statements

After I heard Sam Pitroda’s statement, I looked at myself in the mirror and I appear as a proud Assamese and Indian, not as a Chinese…This is a racist comment. It’s condemnable. I don’t know what he is trying to prove by making such a statement. There is one thing that those who are near Rahul Gandhi always insult the northeast. People of the northeast are proud Indians. You should never challenge our nationalism…Sam Pitroda and Rahul Gandhi are not two separate people. Pitroda is Rahul Gandhi’s friend, philosopher and guide. Why are you (Congress) not disowning him (Sam Pitroda)?…How is this a useless issue? This issue is connected to our sentiments. You are completely advocating racism. If this is useless, then what is useful for Priyanka Gandhi?
– On Sam Pitroda’s statement, Assam CM & BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma
The public support that we are receiving is an imprint of the anger against PM Modi’s unfulfilled promises in the last 10 years. PM Modi has promised to provide 2 crore jobs to the youth, give Rs 15 lakh to everyone. He had also promised a special package for Bihar, but none of his promises were fulfilled

Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Live: Political analyst on Sam Pitroda’s ‘racist’ remarks
On Chairman of Indian Overseas Congress Sam Pitroda’s controversial “People in East look like Chinese, in South, look like Africans…” remark, political analyst Tehseen Poonawalla said, “The Congress party must take a call on whether Sam Pitroda should speak for them or not… Every time he gives a statement or he gives an interview, there’s a controversy that is generated. Now, what was the use of calling people from south of India as Africans or people from east of India as Chinese? It’s a racist statement… The Congress party’s candidates who are fighting on the ground will face a loss. They have people rejecting them. They have people getting angry with them. Secondly, the media will take it up as an issue only because he’s made the statement. There’s no point in attacking the media on it… I don’t know what action they can take because he is not a member of the party. But they can definitely put out a communication that he does not speak for the party. The party does not endorse his views and asks him to please stop speaking at all times. But definitely during elections, do not speak. Put a gag order on him. I really hope the Congress can do that.”

India General Elections 2024 Live: Economist Gautam Sen on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s idea of redistribution of wealth
08:43:54 AM IST, 08 May 2024
India General Elections 2024 Live: Here’s what economist Gautam Sen said on Indian Overseas Congress Sam Pitroda’s remark regarding ‘Inheritance Tax’
- First of all, there is no Inheritance Tax in the US. They don’t have Inheritance Tax, it is called Estate Duty and Gift Tax.
- In the US, it is paid by 0.14% of the deceased till 2022 – of 2.5 million deceased only 0.14% i.e., 4000 people in the entire US are subject to Estate Duty.
- Most estates are exempt because the exemption limit is very high, 13.6 million dollars and also the really wealthy have their money in Trusts.
- So, the US example is not a good analogy for India at all…
- The proposal made to survey all households and businesses is impractical for many reasons. In India, 2.4% or a little bit less people pay Income Tax.
- In that group, I think not more than 1.2 million have personal assets which are mainly in their own residence…In order for them to be forced to surrender, you have to close their businesses down. That means the following year, there will be economic chaos…Whoever thought of this idea was not thinking very realistically, what we have now is a very vast improvement on what we used to have before – we have this incredible combination which has almost never been achieved, of combining wealth creation through investment, infrastructure with redistribution…
- Even if you were to gain something from this not-very-sensible idea, you are going to be taking away from your children and grandchildren.
- Nobody who wants to do this is a friend of India…India’s political and economic chaos will immediately invite Sino-Pakistani invasion because they are waiting for opportunities to settle scores with India and seize Indian territory. So, whoever wants to do this is not a friend of India.
