2024 Election Results Live Updates: According to sources, Narendra Modi will be sworn in as the Prime Minister of India on June 8. According to the Election Commission of India, the results of the 2024 Indian Lok Sabha elections have been announced, with the BJP winning 240 seats and the Congress Party winning 99 out of the total 543 seats. According to the final tally released early Wednesday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is set to win a majority in the Lower House and form the government for a third consecutive term, despite suffering heavy losses in three Hindi-speaking heartland states in a fierce election that was seen as a referendum on his popularity. The BJP, which ran in Modi’s name, won 240 seats, but fell short of the majority of 272 seats.
The NDA crossed the halfway mark with the support of its key allies — N Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) — which won 16 and 12 seats in Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, respectively, as well as other alliance partners.
The Indian National Congress, a part of the opposition Indian alliance, won 99 seats up from 52 in 2019, taking away seats from the BJP in Rajasthan and Haryana. The Samajwadi Party kept morale high in the Indian alliance by winning 37 seats in Uttar Pradesh, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC), another key member of the opposition alliance, won 29 seats in West Bengal, up from 22 in 2019.
