Election 2024 Results Live: Maldives President Mohamed Muizz to attend Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony tomorrow
Maldives President Mohamed Muizz has accepted an invitation to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inauguration ceremony in New Delhi on Sunday, according to local media reports cited by news agency ANI.
Maldives news portal Edition.mv said its Dhivehi sister publication Mihaal News confirmed that Muizz attended the ceremony along with several other senior government officials, but there has been no official confirmation from the Maldivian President’s office about Muizz’s first official visit to India.
In a statement on Wednesday, President Muizz congratulated Prime Minister Modi and expressed willingness to work together to strengthen bilateral ties.
“I congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP and the BJP-led NDA on their victory for a third consecutive term in the 2024 Indian general elections. I look forward to working together to advance our common interests for the shared prosperity and stability of our two countries,” he posted on X.
Responding to the post, Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude to the Maldives President and said he looked forward to close cooperation to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
“Thank you President @MMuizzu. Maldives is our valued partner and neighbour in the Indian Ocean region. I too look forward to close cooperation to further strengthen bilateral ties,” PM Modi posted on X.
This will be President Muiz’s first official visit to India since assuming office on November 17 last year. Known for his pro-China stance, President Muiz broke with the tradition of his predecessor during his first official visit in January and opted to visit Turkey first, followed by China.
