The final numbers are likely to fall far short of the ‘400-paar’ assertions of the ruling BJP. TDP and JD(U) could emerge as kingmakers. “It looks like not only a political defeat but a moral defeat for the prime minister,” said senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh.

• Haryana sees a split performance with both Congress and BJP leading in five seats each.
• In Jharkhand, Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) are making gains, leading in five seats collectively.
• NDA maintains a stronghold in Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, and Chhattisgarh, where BJP is leading in all or most seats.
• BJP leads in all 29 seats in Madhya Pradesh, all four in Himachal Pradesh, all seven in Delhi, and all five in Uttarakhand. In Chhattisgarh, BJP is ahead in 10 seats, with Congress leading in one.
