The FBI announced Monday morning that a 10-month-old baby girl was abducted from a New Mexico park Friday after her mother died, and that another woman has been found and a suspect is in custody.
The department did not provide details about Ileia Maria Torres’ condition, and the suspect’s name was not immediately released.
Police said Sunday that Eleia’s 5-year-old sister was also found injured in the park where the two women were found dead and is recovering from her injuries.
Two women were found dead in a park near Corbis, an eastern New Mexico city more than 300 miles east of Albuquerque and about 160 miles southwest of Albuquerque, Friday at 4:30 p.m. After responding to a last-minute call, police discovered the infant was missing. Amarillo, Texas.
The women, both 23 years old, were found on the ground near a minivan with “obvious gunshot wounds,” police said.
Investigators identified the women as Eleia’s mother, Samantha Cisneros, and Taryn Allen.
Police said the 5-year-old girl was found with “head injuries” and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police said at a press conference on Sunday that the father of the two children is cooperating with the investigation team.
Police said officers found “an infant car seat, an infant stroller and a small baby bottle” at the scene and began searching for the infant.
“Through interviews with family members, investigators learned that Samantha Cisneros was the mother of the infant girl found at the scene, as well as the mother of a 10-month-old child, Eleia Maria Torres.” said a news release.
The FBI assisted local police in the investigation.
Raul Boujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Albuquerque Division, said at a press conference Sunday that the FBI is “committed to working with Clovis until we find Ileia and identify those responsible for these horrific acts.” Ta.
