Ellen DeGeneres’ dining room is a pioneer of organic modern, one of the biggest design trends of 2025. The talk show host’s space embodies natural materials, clean lines, and minimalist style. We’ve discussed the mogul’s real estate portfolio at length, but this might be our favorite.
DeGeneres shared a photo of her dining room decor with a kitten and farmer’s market oranges on Instagram, but it was the backdrop that caught our attention. The comedian’s room features a natural wood bench softened with textured beige cushions. Her farmhouse-style table is also made of wood, but with a completely different stain, creating a beautiful contrast. The light gray wall behind it serves as an accent throughout.
What is the Organic Modern interior design trend? Jodi Peterman, Principal Designer at Elizabeth Erin Designs says, “The Organic Modern trend blends natural elements with luxurious touches to create a harmonious and sophisticated aesthetic. At its core, organic luxury embraces the beauty of natural materials like wood, stone and linen, enhancing them with lush textures, metallic accents and elegant finishes. This style infuses spaces with a sense of sophistication while celebrating the raw beauty of organic materials.”
She continues, “The picturesque rooms are adorned with raw wood furniture, marble countertops, soft wool rugs and shimmering metallic light fixtures, all working together to create a serene yet luxurious atmosphere. This trend ties in closely with biophilic design, which aims to connect indoors with the natural world, enhancing the health and comfort of those who occupy the space.”
Why is the organic modern style so popular? One reason is the never-ending quest for interior design. “Homeowners are looking for sophisticated, yet natural spaces,” says Pam Hutter, principal architect at Chicago-based sustainable design firm Hutter Architects. “Organic modern is appealing because natural materials like wood, stone and reclaimed materials are timeless. My clients often request wooden accents, stone fireplaces and reclaimed wood flooring to bring warmth and character.”
The contemporary focus on sustainable design has led to increased interest in these materials. Peterman says: Homes and Gardens“Organic modern often involves the use of renewable resources and the adoption of artisanal techniques, and is consistent with an increased emphasis on sustainability and environmentally conscious living.”
Homeowners also love the positive psychological effects of Ellen’s mood-boosting designs. “Organic Modern appeals to people who seek a balanced, calming environment in today’s fast-paced world,” says Peterman. “The use of natural materials connects people with nature and promotes a sense of calm and well-being,” she continues.

If you want to recreate the feel of Ellen’s living room, materials are key. Peterman advises: “To recreate an organic modern look in your own home, focus on incorporating natural woods and luxurious lighting. Start by choosing furniture and decor pieces made from reclaimed wood or sustainably sourced wood with a natural finish. Consider adding statement pieces like a raw wood dining table or a wooden bed frame that serve as focal points for the room. Pair these elements with luxurious lighting fixtures like chandeliers, pendant lights, or sleek floor lamps with metallic or glass accents. Opt for lighting designs that cast a warm, inviting light to create a cozy atmosphere.”
She continues, “For a cohesive look, balance textures and materials throughout the space. Incorporate soft fabrics, like linen and velvet, into upholstery, cushions and curtains to add warmth and comfort. Incorporate touches of metallic finishes on hardware, mirrors and decorative accents. Finally, incorporate natural elements, like potted plants, fresh flowers and botanical artwork, to further accentuate the organic theme and create a tranquil retreat that reflects the principles of biophilic design.”
Whether you’re styling an organic and modern dining table like Ellen did, or designing an entire room to match the trend, timeless and sustainable design is always worth it—DeGeneres and Di Rossi’s space is just the starting point.
